JIC RELEASE NO. 711 - 140th COVID-19-Related Fatality Reported; Sixteen of 1,012 Test Positive for COVID-19;UPDATED: COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Schedule; Food Commodities Distribution Continues

140th COVID-19-Related Fatality Reported
The Joint Information Center (JIC) was notified that Guam’s 140th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) at approximately 3:04 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, 2021. The patient was a 75-year-old male, unvaccinated, with underlying health conditions. He was admitted to USNH on June 21, 2021 and tested positive upon admission. 

“Today we are reminded that although our island has made great strides to combat COVID-19, this virus remains a threat to our community. To those who loved him, Jeff, Josh, and I offer our deepest condolences and sympathies,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “We still have so much work to do to further lower our risk. For those who have yet to get vaccinated, please do so--not just for yourself, but to protect those around you.”


GBHWC Crisis Hotline
The Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center (GBHWC) has a Crisis Hotline available 24/7 at (671) 647-8833/4. For those feeling anxious, stressed, overwhelmed or are needing to talk to someone, GBHWC has experienced providers available and ready to assist the community with any heightened stress and anxiety experienced as a result of COVID-19. 


Results: Sixteen New Cases of COVID-19
Sixteen (16) new cases of COVID-19 were identified out of 1,012 tests performed Friday, June 25 through Sunday, June 27. Three (3) cases were identified through contact tracing. Two (2) cases reported recent travel history and were identified in quarantine. To date, there have been a total of 8,344 officially reported cases of COVID-19 with 140 deaths, 82 cases in active isolation, and 8,122 not in active isolation. The CAR Score is 1.2.

Free COVID-19 Testing Schedule
COVID-19 community testing continues. No symptoms are needed to qualify for testing. Bring a photo ID. Testing for travel purposes will not be conducted at these community testing sites. Individuals seeking COVID-19 testing to travel off-island may contact the DPHSS Northern Region Community Health Center at 635-7525/6 to schedule an appointment. Priority is given to patients under investigation and those traveling for medical purposes. For the safety of the community and nurses, only four (4) people per vehicle are allowed to be tested. The Guam Department of Education (GDOE), State Agency for the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) under the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Nutrition Service distribution will be available to village constituents only on a first-come, first-served basis.
