Governor Leon Guerrero Signs Executive Order No. 2021-21
Today, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero signed Executive Order No. 2021-21, relative to suspending in-person learning and amending social gathering restrictions and orders such that:

  • EFFECTIVE 8AM AUGUST 30, 2021:
    • all public and private schools in Guam serving prekindergarten through 12th grade shall suspend in-person instruction and activities until amended by further executive order. All athletics, after-school activities, inter-school activities and busing shall likewise be suspended during this time.
  • social gatherings or congregations shall be limited to no more than ten (10) vaccinated persons indoors and twenty-five (25) vaccinated persons outdoors, unless otherwise provided by Executive Order No. 2021-21 or in applicable Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) guidance. Unvaccinated persons may not participate in social gatherings with individuals who are not members of their household. This restriction is applicable to individuals 12 years plus one month of age and older.

 

Schools may open for faculty, staff and students, to facilitate distance learning and ensure operational continuity subject to applicable DPHSS Guidance and Directives. Schools will further be required to comply with applicable DPHSS guidelines. To view Executive Order No. 2021-21 in its entirety.

COVID-19 Test Results: 179 of 1,612 Test Positive for COVID-19
Today, DPHSS reported 179 new cases of COVID-19 out of 1,612 tests performed on August 26. Seventy-four (74) cases were identified through contact tracing. To date, there have been a total of 10,046 officially reported cases of COVID-19 with 145 deaths, 1,077 cases in active isolation and 8,824 not in active isolation. The CAR Score is 30. 

 

Guam COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As of August 26, 490 additional residents received their first dose in a two-dose series, 108 residents received their dose in the single-dose series and an additional 249 residents have become fully vaccinated. To date, a total of 108,383 (79.52%) of Guam’s eligible population (residents 12 years and older) is fully vaccinated. This percentage includes 8,866 fully vaccinated residents between the ages of 12 – 17, as well as Guam's fully vaccinated adult population of 99,517. 

 

Twenty GDOE Students, Three Employees Test Positive for COVID-19
Today, the Guam Department of Education (GDOE) confirmed twenty (20) positive cases for COVID-19 involving students, and three (3) positive cases involving employees. Student cases were identified at Adacao Elementary School, B.P. Carbullido Elementary School, Captain H.B. Price Elementary School, Maria A. Ulloa Elementary School, M.U. Lujan Elementary School, P.C. Lujan Elementary School, Wettengel Elementary School, AsTumbo Middle School, F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle School, Inarajan Middle School, Jose Rios Middle School, Vicente S.A. Benavente Middle School, Okkodo High School, Simon Sanchez High School, Southern High School, and Tiyan High School.

Employee cases were identified at Finegayan Elementary School and Simon Sanchez High School. A third individual was identified as an employee assigned to Liguan Elementary School but has not reported to the worksite. In collaboration with the DPHSS, GDOE has identified and notified teachers as well as parents of students who may have been in contact with the index case in order to schedule testing. Tested individuals will remain in quarantine until they are cleared by DPHSS to return to campus. Cleaning and disinfecting of areas of the campuses are taking place.

UPDATE: COVID-19 Testing Continues Through Saturday, September 4
Free COVID-19 testing continues at the old carnival grounds in Tiyan, Barrigada from 8 a.m. to 12 noon through Saturday, September 4, 2021. Rapid antigen testing will be offered. Up to 400 tests will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. No symptoms are needed. Bring a photo ID.

COVID-19 PCR test results can be expected within 24 hours. To receive results via email, send a request to [email protected]. For quicker service, visit dphss.guam.gov/covid-19-testing to download, print, and complete a COVID-19 Testing Patient Assessment Form before arriving at the testing site. 

 

Only four (4) people per vehicle are allowed to be tested. Minors must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian and provide government-issued identification to validate age. The parent/legal guardian will also be required to sign a consent form. Testing for travel purposes will not be conducted at DPHSS drive-thru testing sites and must be scheduled with the Northern Region Community Health Center (NRCHC) by calling (671) 635-7525/6. 

 

The community is reminded to monitor for symptoms and get tested if they are identified as close contacts to confirmed positive cases or are experiencing any of the known COVID-19 symptoms, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath 
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell

This list is not exhaustive of all possible symptoms. Other less common symptoms have been reported, including gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. 

COVID-19 Vaccination Record Cards Requested August 23-25 Ready for Pick Up Individuals who requested for their COVID-19 vaccination replacement cards between August 23 and August 25, 2021 can pick up their replacement cards tomorrow, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the DPHSS Main Office located on 155 Hesler Place in Hagatna between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.  Please enter the building through the double glass doors of the Division of Environmental Health.

To pick up replacement cards: 

  • adults must provide a government-issued identification
  • minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
  • parent/legal guardian must provide government-issued identification
  • parent/legal guardian must provide minor’s birth certificate
  • guardians must present legal guardianship or power-of-attorney documents

 

Participating COVID-19 vaccination providers are encouraged to issue replacement cards to their patients, however, providers may also direct their patients to request for replacement cards through the Guam Immunization Program.
